We want to make this blog useful and enjoyable for you, so your feedback is definitely appreciated. Post in the comments here, or e-mail us at computergirls@whiskeyclone.net.

Limited Edition “The Information” Print

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

We got this e-mail today and will pass it on to you. Judging by the prices of other Product Of God offerings, you can expect to pay between £125 and £250 for this.

Please find attached details of the forthcoming limited edition BECK print which will be going live on www.productofgod.net on 1st May. Product of God is an online gallery selling limited editions from the world’s leading graphic artists and illustrators.

The launch of www.productofgod.net will be marked with an unique art litho poster created by London based designers Big Active in collaboration with the internationally acclaimed musician Beck. Best known for their music design work, Big Active has created award winning album imagery for a variety of bands including Snow Patrol, Keane, Athlete, Basement Jaxx and Goldfrapp.

Most recently their groundbreaking work for Beck’s latest release ‘The Information’ has attracted much attention as a result of its collaborative nature. The poster is printed on self adhesive stock and features over 100 individual kiss-cut stickers selected from those originally commissioned for the album package by Big Active. The stickers themselves have been created by leading graphic artists and illustrators including Kam Tang, Jasper Goodall, Michael Gillette, David Foldvari, Jody Barton, Vania Zouravliov and Genevieve Gauckler,
to name just a few.

This limited edition of 200 individually numbered prints will be available exclusively on www.productofgod.net from 1st May 2007. Each print is signed by Beck.

Let me know if you would like any further information or would like to post this information onto your website to inform Beck fans in advance of the launch on 1st May.

Best wishes,
Sam Oxley

Beck Print

UPDATE: Sorry for all the little tiny updates, but I just wanted to say that a lot of the other prints Product of God has are by the same artists who did info stickers, and some of the prints are very closely related to info sticker designs.

Ryan McGinness Show

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

Artist/graphic designer Ryan McGinness has a show coming up that all you SoCal people should go to. You may not know Ryan’s name, but you probably would recognize his work: he has a very distinctive style and he designed a number of Beck t-shirts ~2002/2003. There are a couple here and here, but he did others as well, including the stormtrooper shirt.

Anyway, Ryan is an awesome artist, so if you can, definitely go check out his show.

From Boing Boing:

Graphic designer/fine artist Ryan McGinness has a new solo show of paintings opening this Saturday at Quint Contemporary Art in La Jolla, CA. The exhibition, titled “A Rich Fantasy Life,” runs through May 19. Seen here is “The True Knowledge of Things” (acrylic on canvas, 96″ x 96″, 2007). The rest of the collection also is viewable at the gallery’s Web site.

beck.com photo diary

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

Beck.com has a new photo diary up, featuring nice, large photos Beck is taking while on tour. There are a lot of scenery/landscape shots, many of which are fairly abstract, and some band member shots. Beck is a good photographer, it turns out. Although the link will take you to the March 1 page, there actually photos for a couple days in February, too.

You folks may want to save these pictures, considering what’s happened to beck.com journals/photos in the past.

singles boxset and odelay deluxe update

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

This isn’t so much an update on their status as it is an update on my knowledge of their status. Earlier, we told you that both these items were supposed to come out tomorrow, April 4th. It seems like that may no longer be the case.

The release date for the singles boxset, according to HMV Japan, has been changed to May 23rd. I have no idea if this is accurate, but I hope it comes out eventually since HMV has my money.

Odelay Deluxe is an even bigger mystery. We still haven’t heard a tracklist for it, and the HMV Japan page for it has changed it’s info from a 2-disc to a 1-disc release. Instead of listing a release date it simply says “Unreleased Items”. It’s not even turning up in searches over there anymore.

So, the update in a nutshell: I have no idea what’s going on with these or when they’re coming out.

one chromosome too many

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

PopBytes has a sweet Beck mashup by The Illuminoids for their mashup of the week. It’s called “Lugosi’s Mongoloid Loser” and mashes Beck’s “Loser” with Devo’s “Mongoloid” and Bauhaus’s “Bela Lugosi Is Dead”. I really enjoyed it.

UPDATE: This pic is sweet. (From the Illuminoids, but I got it here.)

masterpieces liquidate in fertile tears

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

According to our friends at Hambeck (original post / English translation), Beck has added a show at the Liquid Room! Some of you may have known about this, but it was news to me. This is exciting because Beck’s last performance at the Liquid Room, in 2003, is widely considered to be one of the best Beck concerts (or at least recordings) ever. Seriously, it’s an amazing show, you have to hear it. The Liquid Room is a small venue that holds about 1000 people, and Beck often comes alive in smaller settings like that.
Will this new show be as good as the last? Hopefully some Japanese fans will record it so we can find out!

days fade to black

Monday, March 26th, 2007

For those collector types out there, I found something interesting recently. Many Beck fans know that Beck’s mother Bibbe was in the band Black Fag (note: not Black Flag) with Vaginal Davis. What I did not know until now is that, according to the discography on Vaginal’s website, Beck actually produced two records for Black Fag. The first, a 7″ EP entitled Parerga y Paralipomena, was released in 1992 and the second, a 12″ LP called 11 Harrow House was released in 1995. I would love to hear these, but unfortunately, they are both “rare and out of print”. If anybody knows where I can get copies of either the records themselves, or even just the music from them, please post here or e-mail us at computergirls@whiskeyclone.net. Maybe we’ll send you something special in return…

Actually, if you’ll permit some train-of-thought-ramblings, I’ve been meaning to run a contest on here for awhile. Perhaps this will be my first attempt at a whiskeyclone.net contest. A prize will go to the first person that tracks down these items. I don’t know what the prize will be yet, but it’ll be something. This contest is open-ended and will end when I say so. Go forth! Find the music!

(BTW, there are some other cool producers listed on that page: Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth and Bong Load Poop Alley man Tom Grimley also both produced Black Fag releases. Neat.)

welcome to my house, let’s go fuck on my couch

Saturday, March 24th, 2007

We’re adding a new blogger here at Paper Tiger, and I’d like you all to give him a warm welcome. Jeremy Hansen (who some of you may know as Bebo) is a good friend a fellow bekfrx who I think will make a great addition to our blog. He’ll probably be posting something about himself soon, so I’ll leave the introduction at that.

Vin and I are grateful to him for agreeing to help out around Paper Tiger and we’re both looking forward to his contributions.

Welcome Bebo!
