masterpieces liquidate in fertile tears

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

According to our friends at Hambeck (original post / English translation), Beck has added a show at the Liquid Room! Some of you may have known about this, but it was news to me. This is exciting because Beck’s last performance at the Liquid Room, in 2003, is widely considered to be one of the best Beck concerts (or at least recordings) ever. Seriously, it’s an amazing show, you have to hear it. The Liquid Room is a small venue that holds about 1000 people, and Beck often comes alive in smaller settings like that.
Will this new show be as good as the last? Hopefully some Japanese fans will record it so we can find out!

Can I Get A Little Echo On This? Ozzy Ozzy Ozzy Ozzy Ozzy

Friday, March 23rd, 2007

Beck played last night at The Echo in Echo Park, CA.  It was a short show, just a spontaneously announced warm-up show before heading off to Australia and Japan for a short leg of the tour.  The band was having fun, as they tried some slower tunes (“Lonesome Tears” and “Movie Theme”) among the fun stuff (“Cellphone’s Dead,” “Lord Only Knows,” “Nausea”).

Otherwise, don’t forget, there’s the giant CD boxset of Beck’s singles being released in early April (see below).  Apparently, Odelay Deluxe is still on for then too (I’ll believe that when it’s in my hands).

Reportedly Beck’s been recording informally, and recently told a Japanese paper he wanted to put out another acoustic record (but as usual with Beck, don’t count on statements like that).

If you’re in Australia or Japan and going to one of the shows, e-mail us setlists or pics or info, or if you can keep us up-to-date on any interviews or radio appearences or anything like that, we’d love to hear from you: computergirls at whiskeyclone.net

From The Basement

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

A new “show” of live music is being made available on iTunes as a podcast (or a vpodcast, I guess).  The music is all produced by Nigel Godrich, and stars many of his friends.  The first episode consists of Thom Yorke and The White Stripes.  Beck filmed his contribution when he was in London earlier this year, and I believe it is the second episode (along with Jamie Liddell).  The first episode launches soon.  More info:

Beck Week In Southern California

Saturday, December 2nd, 2006

Beck is coming out of hiding this week to play a few gigs, here and there.  Well, mostly just here.  They’re all in southern California, and not all are open to the public.  On Wednesday Dec. 6, Beck is playing a private show for Yahoo, which will be on Yahoo! Music next month so everyone can watch it.  Yours truly will be there, writing a blog post about it for Yahoo.  :)  After that, there could be a fun secret club show but nothing’s set yet so if you’re around LA, keep your ears open.  Then Beck is playing KROQ’s annual Acoustic Christmas festival.  Then he is reportedly going to playing on Jimmy Kimmel’s TV show, so set your Tivos.

I’m going to try to do better updating this blog than I have, and I think Newt agrees to do the same.  I’ve just been really busy and Beck hasn’t been doing much since his tour ended.  But that shouldn’t stop us!

steve had a big commotion

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

Hey kids,

Steve Moramarco (who you know from Bean and Beck’s song Steve Threw Up) is playing a solo show at Tangier Restaurant in Silverlake next Friday (July 7). Steve points out that they serve dinner and it’s a great place to take a date. Steve’s a cool guy, so you should go check him out if you’re in the area.

Also on the bill are The Kids of Widney High and The Frequency. Tangier is located at 2138 Hillhurst Ave. (between Los Feliz and Ambrose) Los Angeles CA 90028. They serve dinner there – a great place to take a date! (323) 666-8666

Steve Moramarco has played in a lot of bands over the years. His folk/punk duo HILL OF BEANS had an indie hit with “Satan, Lend Me a Dollar” which was recently featured on the Showtime series and soundtrack “Weeds.” Power pop group BEAN had the distinction of sharing a split 7″ with Beck, pre-Loser days. Then there was HORSEPOWER, his short-lived porn film soundtrack band that wrote the title tracks to such cinematic masterpieces as “Transsexual Blvd.” and “She-Male Slut.” His ten-piece “Soul Punk Swing” band THE ABE LINCOLN STORY is finally finishing a new CD. Oh yeah, his Sunset Junction bad-acid trip is forever immortalized in Beck’s “Steve Threw Up.” If that gets you up off the couch, then you are a sick person truly in need of some help. But fortunately, help is on the way for you via his thought-provoking-and-bowel-cleansing music and lyrics, which he will perform solo-style.

Kids @ 7:45
Steve @ 8:45
The Frequency @ 10:45 — but call to confirm showtimes

By the way, I did an interview with Steve awhile back. Check it out here.

Get Well Cards To The Hostage Vans

Sunday, April 16th, 2006

Sorry, not a lot of Beck stuff going on lately.  Mainly, there are some US tour dates in May and June, and some Europe shows in August planned.  You can see them here, or at beck.com.  It appears that Justin Meldal-Johnsen will be rocking the bass with the band again for the US shows, at least.  Great news!  Also, I guess the Nacho Libre film score was shelved by the producers.  But since it was in fact recorded, maybe if we all ask real nice, Beck will put it out for us somehow (beck.com?  EP?).  More on all that courtesy of Beck’s keyboardist, Brian Lebarton, here.

I went and joined the band and went out on tour (just bend over in the clover)

Tuesday, March 7th, 2006

According to LowCountry Music, Sports & More Beck will be performing at the Les Schwab Amphitheater in Bend OR on Saturday May 27 2006. Tickets go on presale at Ticketmaster March 10 at 10 AM PST.

Is this the start of a real tour? Bend is pretty near where the Sasquatch Festival is (where Beck will be performing the next day), so maybe this is a one-off deal. I certainly hope he does a real tour though.
