Show #52 of the Sea Change tours.
First show with this band.
Only live show with Jason Faulkner on guitar, besides a few of the late night TV spots he did with Beck (the following week). (UPDATE: he played a few more in 2007).
There is lots of reminiscing about the now-legendary previous appearence at Maxwell's, in 1996. The (small) crowd chats with Beck, and he's talkative with them too. Plenty of jokes and good times.
Beck's voice sounds fantastic. The Sea Change sound amazing. This band should have done a lot more together than they did.
"Cold Brains" is dedicated to Smokey Hormel, who lives in Hoboken, but on this night is playing back in Los Angeles.
"Totally Confused" is played at the request of Justin Meldal-Johnsen. Nice choice, JMJ!
No real acoustic set tonight, only song without the band is the short "Do You Realize??" cover. First time "Kangaroo" was played with a band backing, and rare full band "Lonesome Whistle," "Totally Confused," and "Side Of The Road." Awesome.
Basically, they play a bunch of slower Sea Change/sadder songs and then close the set with a fun jam.
