Loser was an early sludgey grunge metal band Beck was in with Steve Hanft.
This song sounds very much like "Born Of Whiskey," another of the metal demos. Really, the riff sounds identical. But the vocals are entirely different... though he may be shouting "born of whiskey" in there too!
I cannot tell much of the lyrics, as Steve is shouting fairly intensely.

- The title "Backwash Mother" is unofficial. It sounds like he says it in spots. There are old setlist reports from 1995 or so that said Beck played a song called "Backwash Mother." It is NOT this song; it is this one. The phrase "backwash" shows up in "Hotwax and "Somewhere Far Along."
