Lyrics:Something's wrong 'cause my mind is fading
And everywhere I look there's a dead end waiting
Temperatures dropping at the rotten oasis
Stealing kisses from the leperous faces
Heads are hanging from the garbage man trees
Mouthwash, jukebox, gasoline
Pistols are pointing at a poor man's pockets
Smilin' eyes whippin' out of their sockets
Got a devil's haircut in my mind
Got a devil's haircut in my mind
Got a devil's haircut in my mind
Got a devil's haircut in my mind
Love machines on the sympathy crutches
Discount orgies on the dropout buses
Hitching a ride with the bleeding noses
Coming to town with the briefcase blues
Got a devil's haircut in my mind
Got a devil's haircut in my mind
Got a devil's haircut in my mind
Got a devil's haircut in my mind
Something's wrong 'cause my mind is fading
Ghettoblasting, disentegrating
Rock and roll, know what I'm saying?
And everywhere I look there's a devil waiting
Got a devil's haircut in my mind
Got a devil's haircut in my mind
Got a devil's haircut in my mind
Got a devil's haircut in my mind
Got a devil's haircut in my mind!
Got a devil's haircut in my mind!
Devil's haircut in my mind!
The Song:This remix of "Devils Haircut" by Noel Gallagher of Oasis is generally maligned. I'm not too sure why though, I think it's pretty cool myself. (And, really, I can't stand Oasis.)
Gallagher added a roaring guitar, and the song ends up sounding like Beck is being backed by
Black Sabbath. If you consider the guitar riff the highlight of the original record, then you'll especially like this beefed-up version. The strong guitar emphasis is pretty much all Gallagher added to the song, it seems, but it brings even more fire to the song (which wasn't really lacking in the first place).
It seems to me like Gallagher took the original recording and just played guitar all over it; the original is still there in its entirety. So it's not exactly a remix. But I still love this version of the song.
There was a brief bit in NME about this remix. It reported that Noel was a fan, saying "it's a privilege working on one of Beck's track as he's a hero of mine. Hopefully there'll be more collaborations in the future." Beck's A&R man was friends with Noel and the idea came up, and Noel went with it, spending a number of days in Rockville Studios working on it. Beck described the result, "He's made the song a little beefier, meatier. It's got more guitars to it, filled out a little bit. I like it."
When asked if Beck was an Oasis fan, he said, "Yeah, I guess. They've got some good melodies."
