Lyrics:
Jet Engine [Version (a)]:

Awesome. I feel awesome.
Oh so awesome. This is intense.

I got my head caught in a jet engine and it's blowing my mind across the sky
I got my head stuck in a jet engine and it's blowing my mind sky high

Give me some feelings, make me feel gentle
Make me feel all of my feelings
Slowly receiving, feeding my genius
I am a tingling, sparkling carpets
Luminous jester will dance like a monkey
Flaming his own cigarette in the shower
Pull the curtains, the pantomine rules
Plug in my nexus, the demon's a genius
Puffing and pouting, the people are piling
Zithers and chimneys will dangle the fleas
Onto the grass of my slowly intuition
Awesomely joining the parade of power

I got my head stuck in a jet engine and it's blowing my mind across the sky
I got my head stuck in a jet engine and it's blowing my mind sky high
Awesomely flying
Sorcery arteries in the genes
Now they are onto the ceilings of seaweed

I got my head stuck in a jet engine and it's blowing my mind across the sky
I got my head stuck in a jet engine and it's blowing my mind sky high

The Song:

Forest For The Trees was the main project of Carl Stephenson, who co-produced a bunch of the songs on Mellow Gold (including "Loser"). He was working on his own album for quite some time, and in 1999 he finally released it, also called Forest For The Trees. The Sound Of Wet Paint was a short EP release based on a track from the album ("Wet Paint"). This song, "Jet Engine," is one of the b-sides, and it is also the Forest For The Trees track for which Beck helped out the most.

"Jet Engine" begins with some taped samples of a flight attendant. In fact, they are sprinkled throughout the trackā€”it sounds as if Stephenson (or someone) recorded an entire flight to San Francisco! A very calm and relaxing tune, it sounds like a dream, though that's Stephenson's style, as do most other Forest For The Tree songs. Beck contributes the entire middle section (the lines in bold above). Beck sounds like he is asleep, speaking in a lazy whisper. It doesn't help discourage the dream-like feel when he's reciting lines like "luminous jester will dance like a monkey" and "now they are on to the ceilings of seaweed."
