Leg: Guero Tour - Leg Two (North America: West Coast summer)
Venue: Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium
City: Santa Cruz
State: California
Country: United States
Notes:
Great sound quality bootleg makes this show very worth it. Also it's really fun!
Band comes out to a "Clap Hands"/"Black Tambourine" jam, during which he introduces the entire band. "My name is Samuel," Beck adds.; As usual my only complaint of 2005 shows is they sometimes feel like a fast rock run-through of a mass of hits. Here that lasts until "Guero," when Beck says hello, hopes everyone is having a good summer (doing lots of push-ups). They then settle down the set, and do a "Golden Age" which sounds very much like "Broken Drum"! This is the only arrangement like this I've heard, it's really cool.; "Loser" turns into a big crowd singalong for awhile, and then into "Touch Dolphins."; The acoustic set begins with Beck praising Michel Gondry, singing "Happy Birthday" to Brian LeBarton and one of the Matts (not sure if it's Sherrod's or Mahaffey's birthday), and trying to play "Jesse's Girl" (because he doesn't know "Freebird" or "Stairway To Heaven"). He also throws in a folk medley of stuff--not usually a fan of these, but I like this one.; Beck then, as usual for this tour, brings audience members on stage to dance during the closing Vultures songs.
