Notes:
Chris Ballew was in the audience for this one, and unlike the following review, liked it enough to go again the next night, join Beck on stage, and eventually join his band as guitarist. Some reports say Beck's DAT broke tonight, so he ended up playing acoustic and people didn't like it. (Other reports say his DAT broke the next night.)
From a review:
"A few months ago he showed up for a sold-out show at The Crocodile Cafe courtesy of a well-hyped KNDD push. It was one of the most underwhelming performances ever committed on that stage. Beck barely made a plectrum connection with his guitar, his stage persona was more that of street savvy Oliver Twist asking for another bowl of beer ("Please sir, more") and his choreography was limited to an occasionally inept bastardization of the Pete Townshend side-leap. He dropped his harmonica and often his place and often in the same song, space and time. First-time listeners were given to comments like "Is this guy for real?" "I don't get it," and "He scares me." His invoking the name "Ozzy Osbourne" over and over in one of his songs was likened to a mantra of madness - and indeed, more than a few left mad."
