Beck dominated the 1997 MTV Video Music Awards. "The New Pollution" lost best Video Of The Year (to Jamiroquai) and Alternative Video (to Sublime), but "Devils Haircut" won best Male Video and Editing, and "New Pollution" won for Director, Choreography, and Art Direction.

Chris Rock hosted, Mike Myers introduced Beck, Beck performed "The New Pollution" with a whole choir (check out Smokey & JMJ's entrance) (and Beck combs his hair in the middle of the performance):
