Date: May 8, 1994
Event: The Beale Street Music Festival
Leg: Mellow Gold North American Tour 1 (East)
Venue: Tom Lee Park
City: Memphis
State: Tennessee
Country: United States
Notes:
The main "River Stage" of this 3-day festival was headlined by Black Crowes, Isley Brothers, and Bob Dylan. Beck was not big enough for that stage though, and was on the Tom Lee Stage on Sunday at 6pm. His Sunday Tom Lee lineup included The Radiators and Kansas. Other names throughout the weekend were Joan Baez and Buddy Guy. See the picture below.
Most interestingly, there was a 'Mega Blues Tent' which over the 3 days had a number of legendary blues guys like Otis Rush, Jimmy Rogers, James Cotton.
Festival cost $12 for the May 8 day!
In 2013, someone wrote a "memorable moments of Beale Street" column and mentioned this for his 1994 memory:
"Alt-rock star Beck plays to a huge crowd and a thrashing mosh pit. Security asks that he play something calm; he pours his drink on a guard's head and plays the decidedly non-chill 'Mutherf***r.'"
