AmericanaramA is a traveling music festival for the summer of 2013, headlined by Bob Dylan, Wilco and My Morning Jacket. There are usually one or two other acts on the bill as well.
On this night, however, My Morning Jacket, for some reason, is not performing; and Beck is replacing them on the bill!
Beck's set is billed as a "special acoustic performance." His band was Smokey Hormel, Jason Falkner and Roger Joseph Manning Jr.
Beck's set was indeed an acoustic one, but it was not really drastically different from his prior two days of acoustic shows (setlist-wise). The Song Reader set of songs kick up the energy a bit, as they do a real traditional country version of "Dollar Bills," pretty versions of "Just Noise" and "Don't Act." Beck doesn't sing any of "Billie Jean" in there, but the band plays it for a little bit in their "Sissyneck" medley.
For the country instrumental jam ("Farmboy Breakdown"), Beck borrowed Ryan Bingham's fiddle player Richard Bowden. (Bingham was the opening act, Beck went on second, then Wilco, then Bob Dylan.)
Then during Wilco's set, Beck came out and performed on a handful of songs as well!
First, Beck sang lead on "I Am The Cosmos," and Wilco backed him up. Next, Wilco performed "California Stars," one of the Woody Guthrie songs that they completed; Beck played guitar and harmonica and sang back-up.
After that, Wilco played "Loser"! Beck sang the verses, and they brought out Yuka Honda and Miho Hatori (Cibo Matto!) to sing the choruses.
After this, Sean Lennon, who used to be in Cibo Matto, came out and did some of his father's songs! Wilco backed him on "Yer Blues," on which Beck played harmonica. Then Cibo Matto came back out, and they all did "Tomorrow Never Knows" (Beck on tambourine and backup vocals).
