Lyrics:
Winter Lady [Version (a)]:

Traveling lady stay awhile
Until the night is over
I'm just a station on your way
I know I'm not your lover

I lived with a child of snow
When I was a soldier
I fought every man for her
Until the nights grew colder

She used to wear her hair like you
Except when she was sleeping
And then she'd weave it on a loom
Of smoke and gold and breathing

And why are you so quiet now
Standing there in the doorway
You chose your journey long before
You came upon this highway

Traveling lady stay awhile
Until the night is over
I'm just a station on your way
I know I'm not your lover

The Song:

"Winter Lady" is the 3rd song on Leonard Cohen's debut album, Songs Of Leonard Cohen. Beck and his Record Club covered this entire album. This Record Club was done with the band MGMT, Devendra Banhart, Binki Shapiro, and some of Beck's live band. (Devendra does not seem to appear on this track, but the rest are.)

The Record Club offer a pleasant take of the song, retaining the calm melancholy of the original. Beck and Binki Shapiro duet on the song, and the rest of the guys add little touches here and there. Not the most surprising or original cover they would do, but pretty nonetheless.
