Lyrics:
American Car [Version (a)]:

My life's a wreck and so is my car, I want to tell you
I'm just not happy with the way things are, I want to tell you
I eat three meals and I piss in a jar
I do it all in my American car
Four bald tires, every fluid low, engine's on fire
But you never make me leave the road

My head is spinning and so are my wheels, I want to tell you
That your ass is on my lap and I'm copping a feel, I want to tell you
I'm going in fast and I'm going in hard
And I'm gonna be driving my American car
Four bald tires, every fluid low, engine's on fire
But you never make me leave the road
Zigga zigga wow, zigga zigga wow, zigga zigga wow wow wow
Zigga zigga wow, zigga zigga wow, zigga zigga wow wow wow

Where would we be without our car?
It's who I am, it's who we are
What will happen when the oil runs dry?
No more pieces of American pie
Well we're heading for a cliff and we got no breaks
I think this joyride was a big mistake

The lights have changed and so's my luck, I want to tell you
The cops are on my tail and I don't give a [HONK], I want to tell you
Two tons of steel flying over the tar
Two miles a gallon, my American car
Four bald tires, every fluid low, engine's on fire
You never make me leave, never make me leave the road
Zigga zigga wow, zigga zigga wow, zigga zigga wow wow wow
Zigga zigga wow, zigga zigga wow, zigga zigga wow wow wow
Zigga zigga wow, zigga zigga wow, zigga zigga wow wow wow
Zigga zigga wow, zigga zigga wow, zigga zigga wow wow wow
Zigga zigga wow, zigga zigga wow, zigga zigga wow wow wow

The Song:

This hot wild song by Bean (Steve Moramarco), included on the compilation cd A Hot Wild Drive in the City, features guest vocals by his friend, Beck. Beck does not really sound like himself, or the himself we've come to know, and he's difficult to make out at times from underneath Bean's loud voice. "American Car" has an amusing lyric and a spirited performance, but the honking car horn effects and general accordion-drenched atmosphere is a little strange and a little annoying.

Notes:
Steve Moramarco (aka. Bean) was a friend of Beck's (see "Steve Threw Up"!), and Beck also contributed his own song "Put It In Neutral" to this compilation album. As you can tell from these two tunes, A Hot Wild Drive in the City contains only songs about cars. Originally released ages ago, it was re-released in 2000. The producer, Gus Hudson, worked with Beck very early in his career. Most of what we know from the Hudson sessions ended up on Stereopathetic Soulmanure.
