Multiply [Version (a)]:

Well I'm sure it never used to be so hard, this hard
I used to get those kicks for free
But now I'm towing the line, ohhh

This ain't no way to be
Stuck between my shadow and me
Could have been the sun don't shine
Although I'll tell you that I'm doing fine

I'm so tired of beating myself
Beating myself up
Gonna take a trip and multiply
Please go under with a smile

I'm so tired of beating myself
Beating myself up
Gonna take a trip and multiply
Please go under with a smile

Sure ain't never used to be in trouble, so much trouble
But love is just a shackle, I see
Coming out of my mind... oooh

This aint no way to be
Stuck between my shadow and me
The sun's going down
It's getting dark in here
Still folks say:
"I got nothing to fear!"

I'm so tired of beating myself
Beating myself up
Gonna take a trip and multiply
Please go under with a smile

I'm so tired of beating myself
Beating myself up
Gonna take a trip and multiply
Please go under with a smile

People on the street, there are many many
People on the moon, there ain't any any
Running down the same old coal
Taking it down 'cause I no control

So tired...

I'm so tired of beating myself
Beating myself up
Gonna take a trip and multiply
Please go under with a smile

I'm so tired of beating myself
Beating myself up
Gonna take a trip and multiply
Please go under with a smile

The Song:

Jamie Lidell is an electronic-soul musician.

He opened up for Beck on his summer 2006 US tour. His album Multiply came out in 2005, from which this is obviously the title track.

Lidell joined Beck and his band at an after-show gig and among a bunch of things, they did this song together (Jamie sang, Beck and his band backed him up).

Live:

Played live once:
June 28, 2006

Jamie Lidell was the opener for Beck's tour in the summer of 2006. After a show in Los Angeles, Beck and his band and Lidell all went to a little bar and played some more. The set was improvised, and one of the jams ended up with Lidell singing this song.
