Lyrics:Rosalie [Version (a)]:
(Lyrics from August 8, 2002 live version)
Lying in your iron bed
Tears are fixing down your face again
Nowhere left to hide the dead
Nowhere left to sweep the day away away away
Rosalie, oh Rosalie, you don't have to waste anything tonight
Rosalie, oh Rosalie, mercy travels just before the morning light
So take the time to find another life you never led
Take the time to find something that will never end
Take the time to find broken pieces you can fit
Take the time to find the edge of where the darkness ends
Morning gates will open wide
Ruby rose, you're treading on
Animals of every stripe
All your schemes seem invisible to them
Rosalie, oh Rosalie, you don't have to waste anything tonight
Rosalie, oh Rosalie, mercy travels just before the morning light
Take the time to find something that will never end
Take the time to find another life you'll never led
Take the time to find broken pieces you can fit
Take the time to find the edge of where the darkness ends
The Song:"Rosalie" is a song Beck premiered during his August 2002 tour, right before Sea Change came out. The song, however, was not on
Sea Change, and is only available via bootleg of the show.
I don't know how old "Rosalie" is, but musically, it sounds a little like a
Sea Change folk song, and it was indeed part of the demos for the album. But whether it was actually recorded at the sessions and left off, or they ran out of time and didn't get to it at all, is unknown.
I like the structure and words of the song. Will it go the way of "
Creole Belle" and be forgotten? Beck.com at one assured us Beck planned on recording the song next time he works with Nigel Godrich. But that didn't happen (it wouldn't have fit on The Information anyway). The song appears to have been lost.
