Lyrics:
Bottle of Wine [Version (a)]:

Bottle of wine, bottle of wine
Where did you go and lose my mind?
I spent my change, I fell out of line
Down in the bottom of a bottle of wine

I mowed their carpet, I drank the shampoo
I smoked the wallpaper, sniffed all the glue
I turned on the strobe lights, the vibrating bed
I drank the wine for to straighten my head

Bottle of wine, bottle of wine
Where did you go and lose my mind?
I spent my change, I fell out of line
Down in the bottom of a bottle of wine

Well, I just might get the urge to roll out of bed
Dog is moaning and your girlfriend is dead
Dishes in the sink and your body starts to itch
Take out the trash, you fall in the ditch

Bottle of wine, bottle of wine
Where did you go and lose my mind?
I spent my change, I fell out of line
Down in the bottom of a bottle of wine

The Song:

On this mostly forgettable song, Beck accompanies his fairly catchy vocals with a terribly clunky performance on the banjo. He sounds as if he's dangerously close to dropping it, or at least getting tangled in the strings. There is some youthful exuberant charm here, which is not always present on Banjo Story, in my opinion. The lyrics are some of the best on Banjo Story, which give a good sense of the escapism inherent in getting lost in a bottle of wine.
