Lyrics:Will I Be Ignored By The Lord? [Version (a)]:
I was born, lots of people sayin' I looked like a dead man
But to them, there was no kindness
And so I came into the world with my hands in my jacket
Made a whole lot of racket
Couldn't speak, but I could beat on a stick
Oh when that aeroplane comes with the Lord
Will I be ignored?
Will I be ignored by the Lord?
Will I be ignored?
There was a woman, she looked on me sweetly
I needed her life to be with mine
But never will they meet, no
Never will they see
These two vines will twist away, away
Will I be ignored by the Lord?
Will I be ignored by the Lord?
By the Lord, what for?
When I may travel on one leg
My breakfast will be unpaid
And the flapjacks will flap back
Off the ceiling on to my head
Will I be ignored?
Will I be ignored by the Lord?
Will I be ignored?
The Song:This track is made simply of Beck singing into tape, with no guitar or music backing at all. Beck sounds disinterested, like it's really late at night, and he wants to go to sleep. The words are excellent, and by the end, he gives the impression that he is improvising (especially with that pause before singing about the flapjacks).
Live:Played live once:
August 28, 1996Beck sang a little of this song live on stage once (that we know about). Interestingly, it wasn't even way back in '94, but in the middle of his
Odelay tour. This is what he sang:
When I was born, lots of people said i looked like a dead man
But to them, there was no kindness
So I came to the town with my hand in my jacket
Beat my fist on the casket
Couldn't beat but I could speak
When that airplane came with the lord
Will I be ignored?
Will I be ignored?
When I thought I'd travel on one leg
My breakfast unpaid
And the backshag will walk back
From the ceiling to my head
Will I be ignored by the Lord?
By the Lord will I be ignored?
