Lyrics:
Whiskey Be Your Lover [Version (a)]:

The sun is shining today on the things that won't go away
You're gettin' fat in that old Stetson hat
But you're looking good just the same
Born of whiskey and the things I can't stand
Whiskey be your lover, but who's gonna be your man?

Bleeding hearts become the idle hands of love
You've found your thrill on top of the stair
I got the bottle in my hand
Born of whiskey and things I can't stand
Whiskey be your lover, but who's gonna be your man?

Born of whiskey and the things I can't stand
Whiskey be your lover, who's gonna be your man?

The Song:

There are two versions of Beck's old homemade tape, Don't Get Bent Out Of Shape, and "Whiskey Be Your Lover" can be found on one of them.

The song sounds like a lo-fi country song, but done in a folk music way of just acoustic guitar and accordion (!). Beck seems to be telling a country tale of woe, and definitely sings it in a dramatic sort of way.

There's not a lot to this song, but it does sound much better than the usual lo-fi home recording would imply. The addition of accordion to the mix ends up making the track sound much fuller and slightly more professional even.
