Kundalini Express [Live version (a)]:

[From March 15 2000 version]

This is an announcement for the Transcendental Run
The train now standing leaves for higher plains
Due to a derailment, there will be no other trains
So why not hop on this one? Hear the porter's sad refrain

Each carriage is connected, as is every single train
The trams are on a track which is a link within a chain
The chain's connected to another chain now
You won't need a ticket if you want to ride on this train

Woo-oo! Woo-oo! Woo-oo!

All aboard the Express Kundalini
All aboard the Express Kundalini
All aboard the Express Kundalini

This song is in your heart, your heart is in the song
This song is of the earth, this song is of the...

You are disintegrating into everything around
Reintegrating the worm we dug from higher ground
You have to let go of ego, ego is no longer you
Closer to nirvana since the porter's whistle blew

All aboard the Express Kundalini
All aboard the Express Kundalini
All aboard the Express Kundalini

Woo-ooo! Woo-ooo!

The Song:

This song is on the Love and Rockets album, Express, from 1986. Love and Rockets were a band consisting of a number of members from the legendary group, Bauhaus. The guitar riff is very train-like, which matches the spiritual lyrics about a train.

Played live once:
March 15, 2000

Playing in Germany on March 15 2000, Beck and the band covered the Love and Rockets classic "Kundalini Express."  They basically do the entire thing. I have a feeling it was the kind of song that Beck and the band would mess around with at soundchecks or backstage or wherever, and they happened to bring it to the stage once. Beck nails the lyrics pretty close, and the band seems to know it really well.

Justin, when asked, thought they'd played the song a few other times. But this is the only known setlist/show with it.
