Beck, as he did throughout his book, often borrowed art/phrases/atmosphere from older sheet music. There is an old sheet music from 1900 of a song called "The Very Last Polka." Beck dropped the 'very,' adapted the basic art (both are vacant, moody alleyways), and wrote his own music.
