"Within Attraction" is a song by Yanni, on his Yanni Live At The Acropolis
masterpiece opus. Beck and his fifth Record Club covered the album in its entirety. This Record Club was done entirely with Thurston Moore, and half with a group of famous studio musicians, and the rest with the band Tortoise. This was one of the Tortoise tracks.
Yanni's original version begins fairly upbeat and pastoral, before leaning heavily on a lengthy violin solo.
Beck, Thurston Moore and Tortoise naturally take it in a somewhat different direction. They sort of keep some of the bubbly melody, and Thurston's strange tinkly acoustic guitar (with a drumstick stuck in the frets) even seems to mimic Yanni's arrangement. The Record Club focus more on stormy electronics and thunderous drums and various vocals layered over each other (they even sample Yanni himself, an interview where he says 'I was in a very bad place' lol). Beck sings a little, but does not appear to be as much of a force on this one as usual.
