Lyrics:Acroyali / Standing In Motion [Version (a)]:
Ahh
Liquid angels burn in the sun
Compradors cry for everyone
Compound vipers show what they lack
Burning survivors, you'll pray to die
It's raining tears of angels
The flowers bloom like bombs
The master is a stranger
The children should not be alone
The savage lights are over
The world returns to dawn
Babies walk on water
Shredded by the rocks
You can blame it on the poor boys
Destroy your marblestone
The stink of death's survivor
Sleeping in a throne
Eagles nest beside them
Delivering gangster beats
The pool is never-ending
On the frozen waterways
The Song:"Acroyali / Standing In Motion" is a track from
Yanni Live At The Acropolis. Beck and his fifth Record Club project covered the album in its entirety.
The original track by Yanni begins with a Japanese-sounding synthesizer intro, then turns into a dramatic orchestra thing, before becoming peppier and sounding like a TV sports theme song. It is an instrumental, no lyrics. Acroyali is the name of the small Greek village where Yanni was born.
The Record Club don't go through quite as many sections, but Beck and Thurston Moore and the brilliant session musician band play a spacey, yet heavy, funk groove. Beck sings in his falsetto, Thurston freaks out on guitar: perfect.
