Has a little hologram on the jewel case, I guess to prevent piracy. I doubt it works. For all I know, this could be a bootleg.

The CD tray is kinda frosted. It looks neat.

Comes with a bonus CD-ROM with live videos of Lost Cause, Guess I'm Doing Fine, and The Golden Age from a 2002 San Francisco show (I think that links to the right one - he played two back to back).

I really like the artwork on this promo.

Interesting in that "End of the Day" is listed as "Nothing I Haven't Seen" and "It's All in Your Mind" is listed as "All In Your Mind".

This is almost certainly an unofficial copy of a real promo. It's on a CDR and the printing on both the CD and the accompanying material looks pretty shoddy. There is also no catalog number of country information listed.

Comes in a plain plastic sleeve with a white cover/tracklist (just a folded piece of paper), and a press release.

There are, however, a few interesting things. One is that 'End of the Day' is listed as "Nothing I Haven't Seen" and 'It's All In Your Mind' is listed as "All In Your Mind" - both actual earlier titles that were almost used. The second is the accompanying press release. These two quirks seem like a lot of extra work for your typical eBay bootlegger, so I'm guessing this is probably a shoddy knockoff of a real promo. Or maybe it is legit, who knows?

Basically a normal US-B release, but it has a promo sticker on the front. It reads:

This compact disc is the property of the
applicable record label and is being
provided for promotional uses only.
Resale is unlawful and may be punishable
under federal and state laws.

My copy also has holes punched into the barcode.

ADVANCE CD

An artworkless and titleless Advance CD version of Sea Change. eBay auction called it a "test pressing," while the CD itself says "advance CD" on it.

MFSL says:

Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab is proud to present Beck’s Sea Change, mastered exclusively from the original analog master tapes, in all its sonic glory. Unlike previous versions, our release contains no use of compression or dynamics processing of any kind. The true sound of these incredible-sounding masters is fully unveiled for the first time anywhere. And as an added bonus, we have included the bonus track from the Japanese release, “Ship In A Bottle”.

A reader with a copy wrote us the following:

...in addition to the regular remastering stuff (quieter mastering yay), they seem to have different edits.

This is first apparent as "The Golden Age" ends and "Paper Tiger" begins. A lone instrument continues for about ten seconds after where TGA usually ends, and PT features a count-in. There seem to be various other differences like this throughout, making the MFSL disc a full 97 seconds longer than the Japanese edition. The only other one I paid attention to at a quick glance was "Already Dead", which includes about 18 seconds of instrumental before the first verse (making it no longer the shortest song on the album).

I believe this is uncommon though not unprecedented for MFSL...
