Healing - Are U Positive (1 version)
Type: Demo

Collection of demo songs, all of which are also available on other Beck demos. Because these are 4-track tapes, it's probable that these are the actual original recordings that got transferred to other tapes (e.g. 1992 Demo, Don't Get Bent Out of Shape), but that's not certain.

The title of this tape is pretty unclear. "Are", "U", "-" and "Positive" are all fairly legible on the tape cover, but the other word is far from clear. Suggestions for it from various people have included "feeling", "thinking", "helling", "thing". Based on some photoshopiness, I've decided that the extra word is "healing", which I think fits in with the self-help message of "Are U Positive". This is just my personal opinion, though. Feel free to interpret it differently.

Many thanks and props to Kristofer for unearthing this!

NOTE: we don't know much about the origins of this tape, and it doesn't contain any new material, so it's possible that this tape is "fake" -- i.e. not actually compiled by Beck.

Title: Healing - Are U Positive
Release type: Unreleased/Leaked
Release date: 1992 (unknown date)
Format: Cassette (x1)
Number pressed: Unknown
Notes:
Maxell XL II high position 4-track tape.

From Kristofer, the owner of the tape:
The Positive sleeve is made out of regular paper...

It's a photo of a young Beck in a straw hat...

The songs...are all on one side (side A). Cassettes recorded on 4-track studios can only be recorded on one side since it uses the whole width of the tape, so on a 90 minute tape you can record 45 minutes of music. It's usually better to have tapes that are shorter like an SA-60 minute tape, but I guess beck went for duration over quality
