This is a promo for WIRED Magazine's Readers Raves awards, their "2nd annual readers' choice poll celebrating the people, products, and web sites igniting the world around us." Beck played an acoustic set at the awards ceremony on October 12, 2000 and is credited as being part of the "Raves Production Team". The inside cover of the CD says that "this limited edition CD featuring Beck was made especially for Wired's Readers Raves awards."

From the liner notes:

Beck Hansen, a Los Angeles native, released his first single, "Loser" in 1993. An infectious slide guitar driven melody, the single's chorus of "I'm A loser baby, so why don't you kill me," became unavoidable. Beck released Mellow Gold, his Geffen/DGC Records debut, in early 1994 to critical acclaim.

After a successful year and half tour, Beck returned to the studio in January 1995, and emerged in the summer of 1996 with Odelay. The album won him two Grammys, for Best Alternative Performance and Best Male Vocal Performance.

November 1998 saw the release of Mutations, a more stripped down, somber album as compared to Beck's other major label offerings. In the summer of 1998, Beck began recording songs for Midnight Vultures [sic] at his home. It's [sic] familiar sounding in that it's uniquely Beck - from the Stax-Volt hornplay of "Sexx Laws" to the electric boogie beats of "Get Real Paid" to the southern fried futurism of "Milk & Honey."
