new round remix by skew

Friday, April 13th, 2007

There are plenty of unofficial / fan remixes of Beck tracks out there, and they are often incredibly terrible. Sometimes, though, you get a pleasant surprise; two of my favourites* in the past were by Skew, who’s done remixes of Emergency Exit and Broken Drum.

This morning I stumbled across a YouTube video for a New Round remix by Skew. The video is underwhelming – just a few photographs in a loop. Once again, though, the remix is really good and I recommend you all pick it up here on Skew’s site.

PopBytes has a sweet Beck mashup by The Illuminoids for their mashup of the week. It’s called “Lugosi’s Mongoloid Loser” and mashes Beck’s “Loser” with Devo’s “Mongoloid” and Bauhaus’s “Bela Lugosi Is Dead”. I really enjoyed it.

UPDATE: This pic is sweet. (From the Illuminoids, but I got it here.)

From The Basement

A new “show” of live music is being made available on iTunes as a podcast (or a vpodcast, I guess).  The music is all produced by Nigel Godrich, and stars many of his friends.  The first episode consists of Thom Yorke and The White Stripes.  Beck filmed his contribution when he was in London earlier this year, and I believe it is the second episode (along with Jamie Liddell).  The first episode launches soon.  More info:

Beck released a self-titled video compilation on the iTunes Music Store today. It includes the 21 videos below for $2.29 each, or the whole shebang for $24.99 The album notes read:

Beck’s use of strikingly off-kilter imagery — touched by flashes of humor and marked by deconstructed pop culture references — has made him one of the music world’s foremost surrealists, whose promo video work with Michel Gondry and Spike Jonze has exploded the possibilities of the genre. iTunes is proud to present this collection of Mr. Hansen’s videos — ranging from frantic early work, like “Beercan,” to the most recent videos for “Girl” and “Hell Yes.” You’ll also get video footage of Beck performing two of Sea Change‘s finest moments, “Guess I’m Doing Fine” and “The Golden Age,” live.

Here’s the list of videos:

  • Hell Yes
  • Girl
  • E-Pro
  • Ghettochip Malfunction
  • Black Tambourine
  • Gameboy/Homeboy (Que’ Onda Guero) [Remix]
  • Bad Cartridge
  • Lost Cause (Version 2)
  • Guess I’m Doing Fine
  • Little One
  • Round the Bend (V1 – No Beck GFX)
  • Jack-Ass
  • Mixed Bizness
  • Sexx Laws (Version 2)
  • The New Pollution
  • Devils Haircut

Woot, two posts in one day.

Puritan Blister’s most recent post has an Ike & Tina Turner vs. Benni Benassi vs. Beck mashup by DJ Moule called Nutbush Vulture. The mashup uses Sexx Laws and Benassi’s Satisfaction; can anyone identify the Ike & Tina Turner song? It’s pretty good, check it out.

Mashup man Arty Fufkin has posted a Beck/Boomtown Rats mashup, Rat Sexx. Check it out here.

Update: Ok, maybe I should have listened to it first. It’s actually just a short clip of a mashup that I guess he’s having trouble with. My mistake.

From http://icv2.com/articles/home/8569.html:

Tokyopop will team up with Interscope Records to combine Beck and Beck. With every copy of BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad Vol. 4, Tokyopop will include an online access code to get Go It Alone, an exclusive remixed track from the musician Beck’s 2005 Guero.

The track will be downloadable from the Tokyopop website.

So the question is, will this actually be an exclusive (=new) remix, or something we’ve heard before? If any of you are fans of both Becks, please buy this and let us know!

Nacho Libre update: iTunes and quicktime.com will soon feature “confessionals” from Jack Black shot during the filming of Nacho Libre. There will be two per week starting March 15 and going for two and half months. In a crazy case of meta-promotion, there is a trailer out advertising these confessionals, which you can download here.

How is this Beck related? Well, Beck is scoring Nacho Libre. An earlier trailer for the movie featured already featured a new Beck song and it is likely that some/all of these confessionals will also have some new Beck tunes. In fact, the new trailer linked above has a better version of the same song we’ve already heard, so that’s pretty darn exciting. Scratch that, I’m just stupid. This is a song that is in the other trailer, but not the Beck one. At least, I don’t think it’s Beck.

Confused? I’m sorry. I know that was poorly written, but I’m tired and can’t bring myself to edit it right now.
