Date: July 19, 1996
Event: Phoenix Festival
Leg: Odelay Europe Tour 1
Venue: Long Marston Airfield
City: Stratford-Upon-Avon
Country: England
Notes:
This was the giant Phoenix Festival in England. The four-day festival's headliners this year were kind of huge: David Bowie, Neil Young, Bjork, and the Sex Pistols. Beck played on the main stage on Friday, Neil Young's day (though Beck did go on fairly early). Look at the poster below, this is definitely one of the biggest festivals ever curated.
However, the festival had notorious crowd control problems, with things like ticketgoers not getting into the festival and curfews, which led to a lot of chaos. This climaxed in 1996 when the huge acts led to it selling out the first time, and combined with a VERY hot weekend, the festival didn't last much longer after this. (They did it again in 1997, again with David Bowie!, but then it faded away.)
