Down in the Park [Live version (a)]:

(From Gary Numan's original)

Down in the park where the Machmen meet
The machines all play "kill by numbers"
Down in the park with a 'friend' called five

I was in a car crash or was it the war?
But I've never been quite the same
Little white lies like I was there

Come to Zom-Zom's a place to eat
Like it was built in one day
You can watch the humans trying to run

Oh look there's a rape machine
I'd go outside if he'd look the other way
You wouldn't believe the things they do

Down in the park where the chant
Is "death, death, death" until sun cries "morning"
Down in the park with friends of mine

We are not lovers, we are not romantics
We are here to serve you
A different face but the words never change

The Song:

"Down In The Park" is a song by Gary Numan, originally found on the album Replicas by his band Tubeway Army.

Beck didn't quite fully cover Gary Numan's "Down in the Park" in Atlanta on August 20 2002. He did try to play it, and mumbled the first verse, before forgetting how it goes. He then discussed with the audience how he should do the synthesizer bit, and got them to hum it. So he did spend some time on the song, but didn't really finish it.

The show before this one, Beck attempted to cover Numan's "Cars" (but also didn't finish it!). One of these days, Beck will do a full, complete Gary Numan song...
