Sweet Virginia
By: Keith Richards, Mick Jagger

Original Performance: The Rolling Stones
Written by: Keith Richards, Mick Jagger

Lyrics:
Sweet Virginia [Version (a)]:

Mike Ness:
Wadin' through the waste stormy winter
And there's not a friend to help you through
Try and stop the waves behind your eyeballs
Drop your reds, drop your greens and blues

Eddie Vedder:
Thank you for your wine, California
Thank you for your sweet and bitter fruit
Yes I got the desert in my toenail
And I hid the speed deep inside my shoe

Ness, Vedder, and Beck:
Come on, come on down, Sweet Virginia
Come on, honey child, I beg of you
Come on, come on down, you got it in ya
Got to scrape that shit right off your shoe

Come on, come on down, Sweet Virginia
I said I want you come on, honey child, I beg you
Come on, honey child, you got it in you
Got to scrape that shit right off your shoes
Got to scrape that shit right off your shoes
Got to scrape that shit right off your shoes

The Song:

"Sweet Virginia" is a Rolling Stones song. It is a stomping country rock song from their legendary album, Exile On Main Street.

Beck performed it live once (see below).

Live:

Played live once:
February 26, 2002

Beck performed this in a concert-ending singalong with Eddie Vedder and Mike Ness, who shared the bill on February 26 2002 with him. Unless I'm mistaking a voice, Beck doesn't really sing any lead here, though he does add harmony to both Ness' and Vedder's verses. Everyone sings during the chorus. Beck's harmonica, however, was some of the best he's done in a long while.
