Lyrics:Banjo [Version (a)]:
Yeeha!
Let's go moon some cars
I said let's go moon some cars
Let's go moon some cars, my friend
Let's go moon some cars
Aw man...
Let's go steal some beer
I said let's go steal some beer
Yeah, gotta steal some beer, my friend
Yeah, let's go steal some beer
Let's go set something on fire
I said let's go set something on fire
Yeah, let's go set something on fire, my friend
Yeah, let's go set something on fire
Let's go shoot some pigs
Oh yeah, let's go shoot some pigs
Yeah, let's go shoot some pigs, my friend
Ah let's go shoot some pigs
Let's Go Moon Some Cars [Version (b)]:
Play us a tune on an unbroken spinet! And let the bells ring. Let the bells ring! Play music now. Play us a tune on an unbroken spinet. Do not strike music from old broken keys. Do not make ghosts with faded tinklings on the yellowed board. But play us a tune on an unbroken spinet!
Let's go moon some cars
Yeah, let's go moon some cars
Yeah, let's go moon some cars, my friend
Yeah, let's go moon some cars
Let's go steal some beer
Yeah, let's go steal some beer
Yeah, let's go steal some beer, my friend
Now, let's go steal some beer, whoo
Let's go set something on fire
Yeah, let's go set something on fire!
Let's go set something on fire, my friend
Let's go set something on fire
Let's go shoot some pigs
Yeah, let's go shoot some pigs
Let's go shoot some pigs, my friend
Let's go shoot some pigs
Let's go steal some beer
Yeah, let's go steal some beer
Let's go steal some beer, my friend
Let's go steal some beer
Oooh! Yee-hee!
Yeeeeeeaaaah! Yeeeeee!
The Song:This is one of Beck's earliest songs. He was only 18 at the time of
Banjo Story, which of course explains a lot about this song. It is a slice of adolescent mischief and a spirited attempt to rock the banjo, and not much more. Can you imagine hearing a kid like Beck standing on the street with a banjo singing this? How cool would that be?
Four or five years after that
Banjo Story version, Beck included "Let's Go Moon Some Cars" on a tape of songs he made for his mother called
Fresh Meat and Old Slabs. He must've enjoyed the song enough to keep it around that long!
He starts the song with an odd sample of a voice talking about making music. This version of the song is just as spirited as the one on
Banjo Story, but not performed on a banjo, but on acoustic guitar and some sort of lo-fi percussion (which may just be Beck stomping on the ground).
