Light My Fire [Version (a)]:

From November 19 1997 version

You know that I would be untrue
You know that I would be a liar
If I was to say to you
Girl we couldn't get much higher
Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire
Whoo!

The time to hesitate is through
No time to wallow in the mire
Try now, we can only lose
And our love becomes a funeral pyre
Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire
Whooo!

Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire

The Song:

"Light My Fire" is of course the song by The Doors, from their self-titled debut album.

Beck played the song 3 times in 1997, but never on his actual tour gigs, always at special event type performances (see below). He and his band also transformed it into a rockabilly/country song.

Live:

Played live 3 times:
Earliest known live version: June 13, 1997
Latest known live version: November 19, 1997

The first time Beck played this was at the film premiere for Steve Hanft's film, Kill The Moonlight, in June 1997. They played a bunch of Beck's country songs, and then closed with "Light My Fire."

A few months later, Beck and his band played it again, this time opening their set at Willie Nelson's Farm Aid Festival. The whole set was country-flavored, and a couple of country musicians joined the band (pedal steel and fiddle).

Lastly, at the end of the Odelay tour, Beck came home and as a sort of winding down the madness of the festival, played a "country" gig in Los Angeles. The same country musicians joined him as on Farm Aid, and again they opened the legendary show with "Light My Fire."
