You Looked Alright In The Dark!

The Song:

To make Song Reader more authentic, Beck filled out his main 20 songs with lots of fragments, melodies, and titles of other songs. Some actually have some songwriting to them, but quite a few are just titles, like this one, "You Looked Alright In The Dark!"

A lot of the song titles are references to older songs and things, but I was unable to locate this one referring to anything in particular.

The hilarious copy for this says it is a "new and pretty juvenile song" and contains a "touch of tabasco -- the dash of pep and ginger." "You can't stop it more than you can stop a cyclone," it notes. "Send us a dollar bill for it."

There is one reference in the copy: the song is attributed to Nosowsky Music Publishers of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Ethan Nosowsky was an editorial director at McSweeney's, the publisher that put out Song Reader.
