To make it feel more authentic, Beck filled out his Song Reader book with fragments of songs and melodies, and even fictional album collections and made-up song titles. The back of "Heaven's Ladder" lists a collection of "songs from the afterlife" called Ye Midnight Stars, and "Hell Ain't Nothin' (When I'm With You)" is one of the songs on it.
Many of the titles in Song Reader are references to older sheet music/songs, but on Ye Midnight Stars, most are humorous phrases involving death, heaven, gospel music, etc. This one is one of those, I think, I was unable to turn up the phrase as a reference to anything.
