Lyrics:
Mistakes [Version (a)]:

I told you lies, I was unwise
You let me know, I let you go
Why not be friends? I'll make amends
If you will just forgive me

We make mistakes when we worry
All over nothing at all
We make mistakes that bring heartaches
And the teardrops fall like raindrops
We make mistakes and feel sorry
When we've made someone blue
But I made the greatest mistake of all
When I said "goodbye" to you

Tho' my neglect cost your respect
Must I in vain seek it again?
We've passed the worst, were things reversed
I'd be the first to help you

We make mistakes when we worry
All over nothing at all
We make mistakes that bring heartaches
And the teardrops fall like raindrops
We make mistakes and feel sorry
When we've made someone blue
But I made the greatest mistake of all
When I said "goodbye" to you

The Song:

To help it feel even more authentic, Beck filled out his Song Reader book with fragments of songs and melodies, as well as fictional album collections and made-up song titles. The back of "Saint Dude" lists five such albums, and "Mistakes" is included as part of The Manly Family Song Album, and is copyrighted.

Many of the titles on the back of "Saint Dude" are references to older songs/sheet music, and "Mistakes" is one of those. It is a song from 1929 by Horatio Nicholls and Edgar Leslie.
