Lyrics:
The Winds That Waft My Sighs To Thee [Version (a)]:

The winds that waft my sighs to thee
And o'er thy tresses steal
Oh, let them tell a tale for me
My lips dare not reveal!

And as they murmur soft and clear
The love I would impart
Believe the whispers thou dost hear
Are breathings of my heart
Believe the whispers thous dost hear
Are breathings of my heart

Yet, if perchance their mission fail
Thy coldness to remove
And night winds with their plaintive waile
Bring back my proffered love!

Then think whenever thou look'st on high
And see'st the light depart
Those clouds, storm driven o'er the sky
Are shadows of my heart
Those clouds, storm driven o'er the sky
Are shadows of my heart

The Song:

In order for it to feel more authentic, Beck filled out his Song Reader book with a number of song fragments, melodies, fictional album collections and made-up song titles. This song is listed as part of the Male Quartette Collection.

Many of the song titles on the back of "Saint Dude," like this one, are references to actual older song titles. This one goes way back to 1856, one of the older references I have found yet. The romantic lyrics, in their so very old fashioned language, are kind of fun; Beck should cover this!
