Lyrics:
Santorini [Version (a)]:

Start a fire
Burn burn burn burn it baby
Got a brand new pack of matches
And I'm ready to set fire
To this crazy scene
Burn burn burn
Tires on fire, cars
Piles of heated metal
Nice & nice & nice & hot
Roasted pigs
Roasted pigs
Oinking oinking oinking oinking
To the night sky
Orange orange
Disaster
Had so much fun with you yesterday
But now what do we do?
Start another fire, me and you!
Ohhhhhhhhhhh
??
Yea yea what's that?
Oh it's just another loose tooth
That's right
Bluetooth headset!
Lost a tooth

L.A. sunshine
It's hot hot hot hot hot
Africa
Africa
Africa
Goin' back
I'm goin' back to Africa

The Song:

"Santorini" is the opening track on Yanni Live At The Acropolis. Beck's fifth Record Club project covered the album in its entirety.

The original version of this song is, like most Yanni tracks, a long instrumental. The first half is a somewhat pounding orchestra riff, while Yanni plays piano all over it. The orchestra than breaks into a more ambient part, while Yanni continues to play piano all over it. Then the original orchestra part comes back.

For the Record Club version, Beck and Thurston Moore and a handful of studio session musicians follow a similar pattern. They play the first big riff, but as a band (drums, keys, piano, electric guitar). Then instead of the ambient piano solo part, they go all funky (semi-referencing Bobby Brown's "My Prerogative" riff). They cut the Yanni track from 7 minutes down to 2.5. Thurston Moore improvised lyrics for the song, which according to Beck, "give the track an added urgency and pathos." (Beck adds that "bluetooth headset" vocal in the background.)

The band Tortoise plays on some of the songs for this Record Club, but not this one.
