Lyrics:Bad Blood [Version (a)]:
Oh here it comes now, got its eye on you
I'll keep your door locked tight
I'll keep your children safe
When the wolf comes (ah ooh ooh)
I don't care if it takes all night
'Cause there's bad blood
Pumping in your veins
It's alright
Turncoat poison in the dropping rain
In the gaslight hours, hear the ghost of a train
I'll pull my flashlight down at the cavalry cross
I've seen the worst of it turn into the moment you lost your way
Here it comes now, got its eye on you
Better run, better run
When it's knock knock knockin'
At your door
I don't care if it takes all night
Got the bad blood pumpin'
Through your veins
It's alright
It's alright
It's alright
It's alright
Oooh ooh
The Song:Beck gave "Bad Blood" to the soundtrack of the HBO tv series,
True Blood. The soundtrack's producer told KCRW that Beck wrote the song for them specifically, as he is a big fan of the show.
The song has a lot going on in it musically, though at the same time it remains fairly minimal sounding, raw and rowdy.
The last few years, Beck has developed his own electric guitar style, which he usually shows off live a little bit. But "Bad Blood" taps into it as well as any of his recordings. His playing is based in the blues a bit, but also goes off from there into riffs.
I'm not familiar with the show True Blood, but it is about vampires, and Beck does tap into feelings of fear in his lyrics too. Fear is not a unique songwriting theme, and Beck has touched on it a few times. In some ways, this song develops the point of view of the wolf who shows up in "
The Wolf On The Hill."
(Beck even howls a bit, like a werewolf. Are there werewolves on True Blood?)
